Gestalt and Creativity

Gestalt therapy, especially in the early formulations of Fritz Perls, appears closely linked to the concept of creativity and creative synthesis. Indeed, it aims to strengthen the dialogical relationship between the multiple polarities within us. Dialogue is structured as a creative experience and an act of synthesis. In Gestalt therapy, the therapist has various techniques and working methodologies to use in the therapeutic process.useful for the purpose of enhancing the client's creative and adaptive capacities. There are many tools to facilitate this process: simulations, visualizations, dramatizations and artistic mediation experiences. The art-mediated session becomes a place where the therapist and the client co-construct and give meaning to the creative experience. Using an artistic product (poetry, drawing, photography) in therapy is not therapeutic in itself; what makes the process therapeutic is the possibility of placing the creative experience shared by therapist and client within the contact cycle of the therapeutic relationship. The art-mediated encounter is nothing more than a relationship between "an I and a you" who intend to create a story together and give life to a process of self-narration and exploration of intentions.

I thank Gestalt psychotherapy for teaching me "to give myself permission" to be creative. Here's a photo highlighting some precious tools of my work that I often use in therapy.
