Psychologist in Florence for Anxiety

Anxiety is the most common reason why a person decides to turn to a psychologist. It presents with constant worry, restlessness, difficulty concentrating, physical tension and sleep disturbances — and often with the feeling of not being able to switch off your mind.

When it's worth asking for help

The useful criterion is not intensity, but interference. If the anxiety has lasted for weeks, leads you to avoid situations, and affects your sleep, work or relationships, then starting a path makes sense. There's no need to wait for a panic attack to ask for a consultation.

If you'd like to first get oriented among the signs, you can find more information on how to understand if you suffer from anxiety.

How I work on anxiety

My approach is integrated and built around the individual person, not applied according to a fixed scheme.

Gestalt Psychotherapy. It works on awareness in the here and now: recognizing what gets activated, where it's felt in the body, and what need lies behind the alarm. This is the foundation of my work.

Cognitive-behavioral techniques. These are used to intervene on the mechanisms that maintain anxiety: avoidance, control, rumination, anticipatory thoughts.

Autogenic Training. A concrete tool for regulating physiological activation, which the person learns to use independently.

EMDR. When anxiety is rooted in unresolved past experiences, EMDR allows those memories to be reprocessed, reducing their impact in the present. Its suitability is assessed case by case, after the initial sessions.

How the path is structured

We start with a few sessions to understand the situation and define goals together. From there, frequency and tools are agreed upon, and reviewed over time. Each session lasts about fifty minutes. I've written a dedicated page.

Where I practice

At my practice in Florence, in Via Tommaso Campanella 5, in the Campo di Marte – Coverciano area, reachable by bus lines 10, 17, 20, 31, 32. Also available are online sessions for those who live outside the city or have inflexible schedules.

Schedule a first meeting

You can contact me by phone, WhatsApp or email. The first meeting is meant to get to know each other and to assess together whether and how to proceed: it does not commit you to starting a path.
